Fame for Sexton

Congrats to Mike Sexton.
According to a leaked article by the LVRJ,
Mike has been selected for induction to
the Poker Hall of Fame.

No big surprise really.
He is worthy.

UB behind the scenes

Just finished reading Haley Hintze's blog.
She's posted a series of TERRIFIC articles
that go into great detail about what is known
about the AP/UB scandle and the people behind it.
She pulls no punches and gives lots of factual
details including names and a timeline.

I'm a new fan of her blog !

D. Phillips on HSP6

Main event disappointment Dennis Phillips
announced on his radio show that he will be
appearing on Season 6 of High Stakes Poker.

PokerStars will be prominantly sponsoring
HSP6, which is fuelling rumours that Stars pro
Vanessa Rousso will be the female co-host
to replace AJ Benza. Vanessa however has
posted comments indicated she wont be the
host. I guess that leaves Shana Hiatt and
Leeann Tweeden as the likely front runners.

Go SHANA !

PS Million $ Challenge

Had a chance to watch the PSM$C
on Sunday in between football games.

I thought it was pretty decent.
Certainly a couple steps above FT's Face the Ace.
I wasnt expecting quality poker like we get
to see on High Stakes Poker. It is after all
a game show thats based on poker.
Chris Rose did a fine job hosting. His
previous experience on other poker shows
was evident. Lesson learned from Face the Ace.
Daniel Negreanu, was the star of the show
as expected. His narration and commentary
were sharp and relevent. Basically what
Daniel does on every show he appears on.
All these things combined with a pretty sweet
time slot after NFL football, give PSM$C a shot
to actually catch on and gain a following of new
and existing casual poker players.

I'd be interested to know how many players they
got for the $20k freeroll they were advertising
during the show.

Roll building update

To follow up on the ealier post I made about winning
a $25 bankroll on ReeferPoker from Tony Guererra....

I've been trying out the cash games the last few days
.

Play on Reefer is so much softer/more passive

than I'm used to on FTP. Low/Micro stakes on Full Tilt
has become almost unbeatable. Reefer on the other
hand, it's like going back in time 2-3 years. Tonnes of
limpers preflop (4-7 ppl at full ring), not much isolating.
When they do play more aggro (evenings seem more aggr),
its often very noobish, Raise 10x or just shove preflop
with TT or JJ or protect their mid pair. The other thing
I see is passive play PF, Flop + Turn, then shove all in

on the River with the nuts. Lots of players have no concept
of value bet. They're not all aweful, but enough of them are.
I cant believe how many of them stack off drawing dead !

The other newbie thing they do is showing cards,

winners and bluffs. I get shown more hands
voluntarily in one session than I have gotten

shown the entire year on full tilt. Reefer has a
show one card only feature, some of them use that,
others just show both cards for free.

Right now, I'm playing very nitty, probably 10%,

I've run the $25 up to $45, playing $0.04NL
and $0.05 Omaha8. Playing 2 tables, buying in
for 50bb or less. Once I get it up to $75-100
i'll move up stakes.

Rake is low there (5%), compared to FTP (10%+).
Keep more of your money and keeps bad players alive longer.

http://www.reeferpoker.com/real-money/reefer-poker-rake.html
http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/rake.php

I think their main advertising is in High Times and

other weed magazines, so not exactly getting many
mainstream good players.

The software isnt world class but acceptable.

I'm having the odd flash/freezing issues if I have
other programs running at the same time.
Reefer (on the Merge Network) isnt directly compatible
with HoldemManager or PokerTracker, although you can
buy adapting software, so I suspect almost No One is
using a HUD or keeping your stats. (I suspect atleast
1/2 - 2/3 of the people on FTP run tracking software)

MICROSTAKES COMPARISON
Totally unscientific, I opened up FTP and Reefer at

the same time and did a comparison of Total Pot Size
and % Players to Flop stats.

Full Tilt stats taken during double points happy hour

which plays looser than normal, table selected looking
for loosest tables available. Often on Reefer there's only
one or two tables available at any given stakes.
(weekends have by far the most traffic and worst players)

The tournaments are pretty weak too.
Most of their guarantees seem to be
getting covered, but the fields are fairly
small and beatable.

definitely worth checking out IMO.

AJ Benza off HSP ?

Browsing http://Pokerati.com
I read that season 6 of High Stakes Poker
may not include co-host AJ Benza. During a
recent interview on the Miserable Men Show
on Sirius/XM radio, AJ Benza said he "found out
through the grapevine that they may replace him
with a female co-host." Benza later offered a
compromise to his GSN bosses. "I'm all for me and
Gabe doing the way we do it and then them going
down to a chick at the table after a big pot and then
kicking it back up to me and Gabe."

I dont think getting rid of Benza is a bad idea
necessarily, but replacing him with a woman likely is.
Gabe and AJ have a unique antagonistic rapport.
I dont think you can have that with a woman co-host.
Look at how many female hosts the WPT has had.
Almost one per season. Aside from Shana Hiatt,
of those ladies were ever able to develop any kind of
lasting connection with the audience.

Marc Emery

Warning: Zero Poker Content

Regardless of where you stand on pot,
this guys case should be important to
all Canadians.

On July 29, 2005, the RCMP arrested Marc Emery.
The arrest was the result of a U.S. Federal Grand Jury
indictment on charges of Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana,
Marijuana Seeds and Conspiracy to Engage in Money
Laundering based on Emery's sale of seeds to US customers.
The U.S. Attorney's Office filed an extradition request with
the Canadian government that he be brought to Seattle to
stand trial. If convicted in the U.S. on either of the marijuana
charges, he could face prison sentences ranging from a
minimum of 10 years to life in prison.

Although the sale of cannabis seeds is also illegal in Canada,
Marc Emery has not been charged by Canadian authorities.

In early 2008, 2 of the charges Emery faced 'Conspiracy to
distribute marijuana and Conspiracy to engage in money

laundering', were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea
on the charge of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana.
The deal would see Emery serve a five year term for
violations of U.S. prohibition laws, but would serve it
on Canadian soil. On Canadian soil, he would have
been released on parole within a year. However,

the Conservative government of Canada refused
to agree to the deal. For that reason, Emery is now
faced with being imprisoned in a U.S. facility for
a full five-year term.

Today, Marc Emery turned himself in to authorities
and is in custody waiting to be extradited to the USA.
Emery will be held for 30 days to give him time to appeal
and then, once the federal justice minister has signed the
removal order, Emery will be handed over to the U.S.

Regardless of your beliefs on drug policy or Marc Emery's
activism, the fact remains that Marc Emery's case is about
sovereignty. I am not a pot-head. I'm an upstanding citizen,
who strongly believes in Canadian sovereignty and the

LIBERTY (www.thefreedictionary.com/liberty) of our citizens.
If a Canadian citizen is guilty of committing a crime in Canada,
then arrest and charge them in Canada. We shouldnt be
exporting our justice system to the United States and
we must not abandon Canadian citizen Marc Emery by
allowing his extradition.

You can find an easy, pre-written emailer to the

Prime Minister & Minister of Justice at http://www.whyprohibition.ca/campaign/do-not-extradite-marc-emery

Bob Stupak dead at 67

from www.digitaljournal.com

Famous Las Vegas entrepreneur, Bob Stupak,
builder of the Stratosphere Tower, owner of
Vegas World, died after battling leukemia in
Las Vegas Friday. Bob Stupak died Friday at
Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas after battling
Leukemia. He was 67.

Stupak was best known for building the
Stratosphere Hotel and the 1,149-foot-tall
Tower that still dominates the north end
of the Las Vegas Strip. Before the Stratosphere
he had the Vegas World, which was born from his
venture called ‘Bob Stupak’s World Famous Historic
Gambling Museum and Casino.’ When he first arrived
in Vegas in the 1970’s he started with a restaurant.

Bob Stupak was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
April 6, 1942. According to wikapedia,
once he was
of legal age he arrived in Vegas and started a coupon
book venture. After a rough go at business in Australia
he was asked to leave the country and ended back in
Vegas in 1971 and put together enough money to buy
1.5 acres of land north of Sahara Ave and Las Vegas Blvd.
After the gambling museum burned down he opened

Vegas World and in the 1980’s he grossed $100,000,000 a year.
In 1979 he won a highly publicized million dollar wager on

Super Bowl XXII and then later that year he won the
Deuce to Seven Lowball championship bracelet in the
World Series of Poker.

In 1995 he was in a horrific motorcycle accident, breaking
every bone in his face. At that time he was building the
Stratosphere, which opened in 1996. It was a financial
blunder at the time costing $550 million to construct which
went into bankruptcy and was sold.

During his life in Las Vegas he was in constant pursuit of
political office but never won a position in any political office.
Senator Harry Reid commented to Jay David Murphy on
the passing of Bob Stupak, "Bob has been my friend for
35 years, and I was saddened to learn of his passing.
Las Vegas has seen many visionary people come and go
throughout the years, but few personified the town like
Bob did. He was a genuine Las Vegas character. My thoughts
and prayers go out to Bob's family and friends during this
difficult time."

For Bob Stupak, Las Vegas was a roller coaster ride, but he l
eaves a legacy on Las Vegas Boulevard -- his vision, his
Stratosphere, which continues to this day to amaze visitors,
now with roller coaster rides on its top.

Hellmuth coaching Shulman ?

Reports are swirling around the Phil Hellmuth
is now coaching Jeff Shulman's for the Main Event
Final Table in november. Somehow I knew Phil
would find a way to weasel his way into the
television spotlight. Hopefully Jeff sticks to his
own game plan and just uses Phil as a way to
distract the media from is previous "bracelet in
the garbage" comments.

Joe Sebok signs with UB

Joe Sebok has joined UltimateBet as one of the
site's sponsored players and has also taken a
company position as a "media and operations consultant".

Sebok says "I wanted to get three things accomplished:
get the cheating account handles out in the open, open up
the access for players to get all their hand histories, and get
the actual physical names of the cheaters, besides Russ
Hamilton, out in the open. We succeeded in getting two-thirds
of that list done and that was enough for me to come on board
and continue to work for #3 on that list,"

Unfortunately, players are still having problems getting hand
histories sent to them. Emails from support are often returned
with "you can retrieve your hand histories by opening up
UltimateBet, selecting Menu and then select Hand Histories"
LOL.

If you cant get complete hand histories, knowing the cheating
account handles doesnt help you one bit.

As far as getting the real names of other cheaters released,
all I can say is... poor naive Joe, good luck with that one.

Bluewater Classic

Good luck to all my friends and aquaintances
who're taking a shot at winning the Bluewater
Classic tournament in Sarnia this week.

The $150+20 NL on Wednesday is sold out.

Still seats available for $300+35 on Thursday.
Day 2 of the $600+70 main event is sold out.
Still some seats for Day 1 left. This event is
basically the only "high" (lol) buy-in tourny
in the area, so usually sells out.

Hopefully the Canadian Poker Tour will
expand next year to include more events
in Ontario. Gotta move to Calgary if you
wanna be a tournament superstar in Canada.

Canadian Poker Expo

They've added 'The Score' as
title sponsor so this thing might
have legs and become something.

Record Field at Commerce

Commerce Casino introduced a new tournament
format which had a three-day start, allowing players
to buy back in on subsequent days if they bust out early.

This proved popular, attracting 3,967 players and
making itthe largest land-based tournament in history
behind the World Series of Poker.

Along with available re-entry, there was also
a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

According to tournament directore Matt Savage,
"Commerce was jam packed this past weekend.
It shows that a little creativity and an opportunity
for a second chance at hundreds of thousands of dollars
can reinvigorate poker"

First place went to Moshe Mashiah from LA,
who collected $164,627. Commerce crushed its
$500,000 guarantee by $253,730, paying 369
players a share of the $753,730 prize pool.

HUGE BB Jackpot at Seneca

The Bad Beat Jackpot at Seneca Niagara
Casino has ballooned to $252,342 USD.

I bet there's tonnes of old farts
falling asleep in the chairs, barely
playing a hand, afraid to go home
because they might miss the BBJ.

I think this is +EV.

Annette_15 Advert Banned

An ad sent out in emails by Betfair.com showing
a photo of a young looking Annette Oberstadt
with the caption “Online experience is measured
in games, not years. Join the new breed. Annette_15″.

The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)
has upheld a complaint made about the advertisement,
saying it “was likely to have particular appeal to
children and young people, and that, by representing
a successful young poker player with the implication
she was 15 years old, it could encourage young people
to gamble and was therefore irresponsible”.

Mercier jumps to BetClick

The rumours are true. Isabelle Mercier
has ended her sponsorship with PokerStars
She has signed with BetClick which is trying to
grow its market across europe. Good luck to her.
